RSEA is an Advocate

RSEA is your advocate and adds your voice at the Texas Legislature.  The RSEA board works closely with the Legislature, the Employees Retirement System and other organizations to advocate legislation and program changes that will support and enhance the lives of our members. Each Legislative session, we track bills, provide testimony and other communications to the Legislature, and provide an end-of-session wrap-up for RSEA members in our newsletter and on the RSEA website.

The Texas Legislature meets in Regular Session every other year (each odd numbered year) for 140 days.  Sessions begin on the Second Tuesday in January pursuant to the Texas Constitution. For example, the 88th Legislature, Regular Session, began on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, and ended on Monday, May 29th 2023. The following link provides dates and deadlines related to the immidiate past legislative session.

During the interim between sessions, RSEA monitors ERS implementation of any legislation from the recent Legislature. We also monitor legislative committees who are charged by the Lieutenant Governor or Speaker to research issues relevant to retirees in advance of the upcoming legislature.
